“Respect human rights of Iranian people”

Location: Islamic Republic Embassy, Princess Gate, Hyde Park, London……
Time: 13.00………..
Date: Saturday 25 July 2009

In solidarity with the Iranian people, citizens of the world will stand together stop human rights abuses in Iran and demand an end to state-sponsored violence which has resulted in the detention, kidnapping, rape and murder of many Iranians.

Background
On June 12, 2009 Islamic Republic held its tenth presidential elections. With the overwhelming 82 o/o participation, it had one of the highest voter turnout in its history of 30 years. The results which were hastily announced were not what people expected.
Ever since the world witnessed, throughout Iran millions protested peacefully and in silence to demand ‘Where is My Vote?’ Ever since, the world watched in horror state-sponsored violence against men, women of all ages who are indiscriminately attacked with knife, batons, teargas, pepper-gas, batons and live ammunition. Over 2000 people are kept in unknown detention centres. The tragic death of ‘Neda’, the disappearance and death of another young man ‘Sohrab Araabi’ whose body was delivered to his family after three weeks of relentless search, the recent brutal rape, killing and burning of another young woman, Taraneh Mousavi, who was abducted in daylight and in front of witnesses has added to the tragedy of the rigged election results.
The Global Day of Action is organised around the following demands:
1- Attract the attention of member states, United Nations, civil society and human rights organisations and the whole international community and to urge them to give sustained assistance to the plight of the Iranian people.
2- Immediate delegation of UN and international bodies to visit Iran and investigate the grave and systematic human right abuses.
3- Immediate release of political prisoners.
4- Stop state-sponsored violence and make accountable those who commit these crimes.
5- Freedom of press, assembly, peaceful rallies, all of which are guaranteed under the Islamic Republic Constitution.
